The landscaping of the grounds surrounding Emily Lodge has been influenced by the nearby woodland and is designed to embed the new building within the surrounding green spaces.

The mixture of landscape planting, paving and retaining structures with shade-loving scrub species extends the woodland edge into the heart of the amenity spaces. On the eastern boundary, new tree planting fills gaps in the existing tree belt, screening the development and providing privacy to users and staff, whilst also supporting wildlife.

The design was developed in collaboration with ecologists to maximise biodiversity. Existing ecological features have been retained and enhanced and new habitats created including bug hotels, bat and bird boxes.

To the east of the building the raised deck links the building interior seamlessly to the outside space, providing a multi-functional area which can be used throughout the year. From the deck a ramp leads to a more traditional garden with seating, lawns and ornamental planting, with an in-ground trampoline.

The exterior landscape is designed to be an extension of the building, providing service users, visitors and staff with a calm, tranquil series of spaces, which delight the senses and ensure a restful and restorative stay.

Below are some images of the internal courtyard and grounds.
