This development has created a new 550m2 Short Breaks Centre delivering respite care for adults with learning disabilities and/or autism. Users can stay at the centre overnight and the length of stay varies from 1-2 days to 2 weeks or more.
The building features eight spacious en-suite bedrooms, designed to be fully accessible to wheelchair users and suitable for those with complex needs, communal lounge and dining areas and a sensory room. The proposed internal courtyard allows light to flood into the building and the bedrooms are situated to the north and west, for privacy and to maximise the views towards green spaces.
The building is specifically designed to enhance the experience for the service users and facilitate their independence. For example, the kitchen is equipped with variable height worktops, hobs and sinks to enable all users to assist staff with meal preparation if they so wish.
Below are some images of the completed building.
